Posted

STEVENS POINT — Edward Orgon Jr. was sworn in as Stevens Point’s new chief of police on Feb. 23. Following the retirement announcement of Police Chief Bob Kussow, a nationwide search was launched in Aug. 2025 to find a new chief of police. In Dec. 2025, four finalists were named for the position, including Orgon, Dana Williams and Joseph Johnson from the Stevens Point Police Department, and Ryan La Broscian from the Baraboo Police Department.
Ultimately, the Stevens Point Police and Fire Commission named Orgon as the city’s 31st chief of police in a 3-2 vote.
Orgon’s law enforcement background spans over 35 years. He began his law enforcement career in Chesterfield County, Virginia where he was a police officer for eight years. Orgon then transitioned into federal work with the Drug Enforcement Administration for 23 years. He comes to Stevens Point after working as the Police Chief in Lake Hallie, Wisconsin.
During the swearing in ceremony, interim chief of police Dana Williams spoke on Orgon’s appointment, “We look forward to learning more about Chief Orgon’s vision, his passion for law enforcement, and the direction in which he will guide this department.”
“To the men and women of the Stevens Point Police Department, it is an honor to lead you to the next chapter for the police department. I will be your biggest cheerleader for the great work that you all do daily and I will always have your back,” Orgon said.
