No sunflower seeds in the dugouts

New rules at Bukolt and Zenoff Parks

STEVENS POINT — The Common Council have approved ordinance amendments to the city’s municipal code that intend to keep Bukolt and Zenoff Parks safer and cleaner for residents.
The skate park in Bukolt has seen an increase in prohibited motorized vehicles, such as remote controlled cars, utilizing the area intended for skaters and bikers.
Parks Director Dan Kremer explained that while the rules are posted that do not allow for motorized vehicles, they are not ordinance enforceable without an amendment being made.
“We had a law enforcement item that came up where we couldn’t issue a citation.” Kremer said. “This will just bring us enforceability should this happen again in the future.”
The amendment will make motorized vehicles, scooters, hoverboards, mountain bikes, remote controlled cars, drones, alterations or modifications to the skate park prohibited. Additionally, food, drinks, glass contained, gum, alcohol, tobacco products, and pets will be prohibited within the skating area.

Violation of the amendment could result in removal from the skate park, revocation of park privileges, or an issuance of a citation.
Sunflower seeds have been a consistent problem at Zenoff Park, according to Kremer. While signs are posted around Zenoff Park that sunflower seeds are not allowed on the turf or in the dug outs, the parks department has continued to find sunflower seeds around the field. With Zenoff having a synthetic turf, it makes cleaning and maintenance much more difficult when sunflower seeds are left laying around.
Kremer stated sunflower seeds are and would still be allowed at the park, just not directly on the field or in the dugouts. The amendment would prohibit the seeds from being possessed, consumed, or discarded in the infield and dugouts. Violation of the amendment would result in a possible citation.
Both ordinance amendments were approved by the council.
