One killed in Plover crash

PLOVER — The Portage County Sheriff’s Office is investigating a two-vehicle crash that occurred on May 15 on State Highway 54 at County Highway F in the Town of Plover. The crash resulted in the death of a 78-year-old woman from Wisconsin Rapids.
On May 15 at 3:17 p.m., the Portage County Sheriff’s Office Communications Center received a report of a traffic crash involving two vehicles on State Highway 54, at County Highway F and Pierce Avenue, in the Town of Plover. Portage County deputies, EMS, Fire and Rescue units were dispatched.
Preliminary investigation determined that an 81-year-old male from Wisconsin Rapids, identified as Alan Werth, was driving eastbound on State Highway 54. A 79-year-old male, also from Wisconsin Rapids and identified as Robert Hall, was driving westbound on State Highway 54. The eastbound driver attempted to turn left onto Pierce Avenue and failed to yield to the westbound vehicle. The vehicles collided and came to rest in the ditch, northwest of the intersection.
The eastbound driver and his 70-year-old female passenger, identified as Robin Werth, were not injured. The westbound driver suffered minor injuries and was transported by Portage County Ambulance to Aspirus Riverview Hospital in Wisconsin Rapids. A 78-year-old female passenger in the westbound vehicle, identified as Mary Hall, suffered serious injuries and was transported by Portage County Ambulance to Aspirus Hospital in Plover and flown to Aspirus Wausau Hospital by a MedEvac helicopter.
On May 18 the Sheriff’s Office was notified that Mary Hall had died at the hospital from injuries sustained in the crash.
The crash remains under investigation by the Portage County Sheriff’s Office.
