Sheriff Lukas not seeking fourth term

Posted

PORTAGE COUNTY — Sheriff Mike Lukas has announced he will not be seeking a fourth term as Portage County Sheriff. Lukas has served Portage County law enforcement for 32 years and as sheriff for almost 12 years.
“Watching the men and women of the sheriff’s office put their lives on the line, show up to work during the most unpleasant of times, deal with the most difficult situations with me knowing each will do this with professionalism, compassion and courage. I am so proud of every member of the Sheriff’s Office,” Lukas wrote in a letter to Portage County citizens.
In the letter, Lukas addressed who he believes to be a fitting replacement for him as sheriff. “I will be fully endorsing Captain Joshua Ostrowski for your next Portage County Sheriff. Captain Ostrowski has been my Under Sheriff and has a firm grip on the jail/sheriff’s office project beginning. He also has taken it upon himself to learn all aspects of the sheriff’s office.”
Lukas thanked Portage County residents for their support and confidence in his law enforcement career.
