Traffic signals return to normal

STEVENS POINT—The Water and Nebel Street traffic signals have returned to normal operation after years of acting as a four-way stop intersection with red blinking lights.

The change comes due to anticipated shifts in traffic patterns at the intersection stemming from Business 51 road construction. The traffic signals switched on May 28, causing many drivers to report close calls and near crashes in the intersection after becoming accustomed to the intersection acting as a four-way stop.

The city announced that upon completion of the 2026 construction season, the traffic signals at the intersection will be removed entirely and an all-way stop controlled intersection will be established.
