UWSP to renovate track

Posted

STEVENS POINT — The University of Wisconsin-Stevens Point will replace its existing track and field area with the recent approval of the Colman Field project by the State Building Commission.
The state-of-the-art track will be the new home of the Pointer track and field teams as well as for campus and community users, located at the corner of Maria Drive and Reserve Street on the north end of campus. The project is being partially funded by donations from the Top Dawg Booster Club, an advisory group made up of track and field alumni.
“This renovation will provide our athletes with a first-class facility to compete and practice,” said Brad Duckworth, UWSP Athletics director. “Adding an outdoor track was necessary to continue to attract top-level athletes to UWSP; all who desire to compete at the highest level of NCAA Division III track and field.”
The track will benefit track and field programs as well as the more than 850 student athletes at UWSP, Duckworth said. “We could not have gotten to this point without our dedicated alumni who have already begun significant contributions to make this a reality; we cannot thank them enough. Pointer Athletics is a very special place because of our tremendous campus, alumni and community support.”
The new space will feature an NCAA-compliant premium rubberized track surface with nine lanes, which will allow the university to host the first WIAC Conference Finals at UWSP in 30 years. There will also be spaces for field events and an LED lighting system. A 500-seat bleacher system also may be added for event spectators.
The redevelopment of the track began in Dec. 2024 as Rettler Corp was selected to conduct the design work. The project was approved by the Universities of Wisconsin Board of Regents in Aug. 2025, with bidding expected in early spring 2026. Construction will begin in early summer 2026, with completion set for fall 2027.
