STEVENS POINT — Stevens Point Mayor Mike Wiza was elected President of the League of Wisconsin Municipalities’ Urban Alliance on March 26. The Urban Alliance is a subset of the League for municipalities with a population of 10,000 or more. The Urban Alliance focuses on public policy evaluation and development, public education, and legislative advocacy.
“I am honored to have been selected by my peers as President of the Urban Alliance. The Urban Alliance provides invaluable resources to communities throughout Wisconsin and acts as a collective voice for municipal leaders to our state and federal representatives,” said Wiza.
The League’s Board of Directors created the Urban Alliance following the dissolution of the Alliance of Cities in 2011 to ensure that chief executives and finance directors from larger municipalities continue to have a forum to discuss and advocate on issues of concern to urban areas.
Mayor Wiza is in his third term as Mayor in Stevens Point. He has served on the League’s Urban Alliance since 2015 and is also a member of the Green Tier Legacy Communities.
“We’re going to focus on telling our stories at the state level. Our representatives need to know the challenges Mayors and other leaders are facing regarding infrastructure funding, housing shortages and affordability, and a host of other impediments we need help overcoming,” Wiza continued. “Every city faces the same issues, and we are best served telling our story together.”
