YMCA expands to Plover

PLOVER — A new YMCA location will open in Plover in 2026 and it’s opening its doors in the former Younkers building. The Stevens Point Area YMCA is collaborating with Lorke Development Company to bring the new Plover branch to life.
According to the YMCA’s website, the new Plover location is expected to open around March 1, 2026. While the new YMCA won’t be identical to Stevens Point’s Division Street location, it will have four pickleball courts, a wellness center, walking track, and a small section of turf available for use. While the new location will not offer child care or have a pool like the Stevens Point branch, a membership at the Stevens Point YMCA now gives members’ access to the Plover YMCA at no additional cost.
The building is located at 1780 Plover Road. Younkers officially closed its doors in the summer of 2018, following its parent company filing for bankruptcy. It has been vacant since the store’s closure, with the Plover YMCA promising to bring community members back to the building.
